Gas Regulators, Flow Meters & Cylinders
Every gas cylinder needs the right regulator to bring its high pressure down to a safe working pressure. Here's how the parts fit together, and what to tell us when you order.
Regulators
A regulator is made for one gas. Oxygen, acetylene, nitrogen, argon and CO2 regulators often have different fittings, and each is built for its own gas, so a regulator must only be used on the gas it is made for. The high-pressure gauge shows what's left in the cylinder; the low-pressure gauge shows the working pressure.
Flow meters
TIG and MIG welding measure shielding gas by flow, in litres per minute, rather than by pressure. A flow meter — or a regulator with a flow gauge — sets the flow of argon or CO2 to the torch.
Cylinders
We supply medical and industrial gas cylinders, filled with gas or empty. Keep cylinders upright and secured with a chain, away from heat, and close the valve when they're not in use.
Safety basics
- Never put oil or grease on oxygen fittings.
- Use flashback arrestors on oxy-fuel cutting torches.
- Check hoses and connections for leaks with soapy water, never with a flame.
- Open cylinder valves slowly.
What to tell us when you order
- The gas: oxygen, acetylene, nitrogen, argon or CO2
- For cylinders: the size and the valve type you use
- The brand you prefer, if any
- The quantity
General guidance only. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for your machine, gas and electrodes.
